TASTE AND SEE

Scripture

Psalms 34:1-8

¹I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.²My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad.³Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!⁴I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.⁵Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.⁶This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.⁷The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.⁸Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

1.When you are in the middle of difficulty or disappointment, what makes it hardest to keep praise on your lips?
2.What specific fear is holding onto right now that you have not yet brought to the Lord in honest prayer?
3.What is the difference between wearing a “mask” of happiness and the genuine radiance that comes from resting in God's faithfulness?
4.What would it look like for you to personally “taste and see” God’s goodness rather than depending only on someone else’s experience?

Exposition

Fear has a way of narrowing our vision. When we feel anxious, uncertain, or overwhelmed, the problem in front of us can seem larger than everything else. Praise becomes unnatural, and God’s goodness is harder to recognize. David knew fear. was not written from a place of ease, yet he chose to bless the Lord. He sought God, and God answered him. David did not pretend the danger was small. He discovered that God was greater. And David invites others to join him. “Magnify the Lord with me.” God does not become greater when we praise him, but our view of him grows clearer. Worship lifts our eyes from the size of the problem to the greatness of the One who holds us. A fearful heart looks inward. A worshiping heart looks upward. God is not distant from those who seek him. He hears. He delivers. He surrounds his people with care. And David does not merely say, “Know that the Lord is good.” He says, “Taste and see.” God’s goodness is not meant to remain secondhand. You are invited to trust him personally, take refuge in him, and discover his faithfulness for yourself. So bring your fear to God. Praise him even before everything changes. Let the stories of others encourage you, but do not stop there. Step into trust. The Lord is good, and those who take refuge in him are never disappointed.

Prayer

“Father, thank you that you hear me when I seek you. Help me praise you even when fear feels strong and circumstances remain uncertain. Teach me to look to you, trust your goodness, and take refuge in your faithful care. Let my life become a testimony that encourages others to seek you too.”
