SEATED IN VICTORY

Psalms 110:1-7
1The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.”2The LORD sends forth from Zion your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of your enemies!3Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of your youth will be yours.4The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”5The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.6He will execute judgment among the nations, filling them with corpses; he will shatter chiefs over the wide earth.7He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore he will lift up his head.
Reflect
- 1.In verse 1, the Lord tells David’s Lord to sit at his right hand. How does the reign of Christ strengthen your confidence when life feels unstable or opposed?
- 2.In verse 2, the Lord sends forth the scepter of his King. Where do you need to submit more fully to Christ’s rule in your thoughts, choices, or relationships?
- 3.How does knowing that Jesus is our priest comfort you?
- 4.In verses 5–7, the Lord defeats his enemies and lifts his head in victory. What fear or opposition do you need to view in light of Christ’s final victory?
Exposition
Sometimes the world feels ruled by everything except God. Evil is loud. People in power are proud. Our own hearts can feel divided, anxious, and resistant. We may believe Jesus is Savior, yet still struggle to live as though he is truly King over every part of life.
lifts our eyes to the throne. David speaks of One greater than himself, seated at the right hand of the Lord. This King does not reign nervously or temporarily. He reigns with authority, and every enemy will one day be placed under his feet. Christ is not waiting to become King. He reigns now.
But this King is also a priest forever. That means the One who rules over us also represents us before God. He is not distant from our weakness. He does not merely command from heaven; he brings us near to God by his grace. The throne is powerful, and the priesthood is merciful.
Your fears are not greater than his authority. Your sin is not greater than his priestly grace. Your enemies are not greater than his victory. The world may look unsettled, but the King is seated. The battle may feel long, but the outcome is sure.
So surrender before him today with trust and not fear. Surrender the part of your life you have tried to rule on your own. Come to him with your guilt and need. The King who reigns is also the Priest who saves, and his victory will not fail.
Prayer
“Father, thank you for giving us Jesus, the King who reigns and the Priest who brings us near. Help me submit to his rule with trust and joy. Strengthen my heart when life feels unstable or opposed. Teach me to rest in his grace and live today under his victory.”
