LOUDER THAN WORDS

Titus 2:6-82 min read

The Passage

6Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.

7Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity,

8and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.

Reflect & Apply

  1. Where do you find it hardest to practice self-control — your words, your habits, or your reactions under pressure?
  2. Who is watching your life right now, and what are they learning about faith from the way you speak and work?
  3. How would your choices change if you remembered that your life is a model for someone else?

Today’s Word

We have all met people who give good advice but don’t follow it themselves. They tell others to be patient but easily lose their temper. They encourage honesty but make excuses when telling the truth becomes inconvenient. And if we are honest, we sometimes see the same inconsistency in our own lives.

It is one thing to know what is right. It is another thing to live it. In , Paul instructs Titus to urge younger men to be self-controlled. But he does not stop with what Titus should teach. He tells Titus to be an example of good works, showing integrity, dignity, and sound speech.

This does not mean Christians must be perfect before they can encourage others. We all struggle, stumble, and need God's forgiveness. But there should be a growing consistency between what we believe and how we behave.

The good news is that God does not leave us to change ourselves through sheer willpower. His grace trains us to turn away from ungodliness and live self-controlled, upright lives ().

Grace changes more than what we believe; it changes how we live. Perhaps someone is watching how you handle pressure at work, respond to frustration at home, or speak about others when they are absent. Your response may leave a deeper impression than any advice you could give.

So today, pay attention to the ordinary moments. Practice patience. Speak carefully. Keep your commitments. And when you fail, humbly acknowledge it and return to God's grace.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for your grace that not only forgives me but also teaches me how to live. Forgive me for the times my actions have contradicted what I profess to believe. Help me grow in self-control, integrity, and wisdom so that my words and actions consistently reflect the character of Jesus. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Thank you for reading today.
