Reflections of Grace
WAIT FOR THE LORD
Scripture
Psalms 27:7-14
7Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me!8You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.”9Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation!10For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in.11Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.12Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.13I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!14Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!
Reflect
- 1.David cries for God to hear him and answer him. What honest prayer do you need to bring before God today?
- 2.Verse 10 offers a stunning promise: even if your father and mother forsake you, the Lord will take you in. Where have you experienced the pain of human abandonment, and how does this verse speak directly into that wound?
- 3.Verse 14 repeats the command twice: “Wait for the Lord.” Why do you think waiting requires strength and courage, and in what area of your life is God asking you to trust him by waiting rather than forcing a resolution?
Exposition
Waiting feels like one of the hardest parts of faith. We pray, but the answer does not come quickly. We seek direction, but the path still feels unclear. We ask God to move, but the situation remains heavy. In those moments, our hearts become restless, discouraged, or afraid.
shows us that faith does not mean pretending we are fine. David cries out for mercy. He asks God not to hide his face. He admits the pain of being rejected or opposed. Yet in the middle of that struggle, he keeps turning toward the Lord. His heart hears God’s invitation: “Seek my face.” And David responds by seeking him.
This truth steadies us: God is not only the giver of answers; he is the refuge of our hearts. Even if people fail us, the Lord receives us. Even if enemies rise against us, the Lord teaches us his way. Even if the road is long, the Lord is still good. Waiting is not wasted when we are waiting with God.
So take heart. Do not rush ahead in fear. Do not give up in discouragement. Seek the Lord, trust his goodness, and let him strengthen your heart while you wait.
Prayer
“Lord, you tell me to seek your face, and my heart answers yes. But I am easily distracted and quick to panic. Forgive me for trying to rescue myself while you ask me to wait. Thank you that even when others abandon me, you take me in. Teach me your way. Lead me on a level path. Give me the strength to wait, not in passivity, but in trust. I believe I will see your goodness. Help my unbelief. Amen.”
