THE WORD IS NEAR

Scripture

Romans 10:8-15

⁸But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);⁹because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.¹⁰For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.¹¹For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”¹²For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.¹³For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”¹⁴How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?¹⁵And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

1.Paul says the word is near. How does this encourage you to respond to the gospel personally instead of treating it as distant or complicated?

Exposition

Sometimes we make the gospel feel farther away than it is. We imagine that coming to God requires complicated steps, perfect words, or a life already cleaned up. But Paul says the word is near. The message of Christ is not hidden beyond reach. God has brought salvation close through Jesus. The heart of this passage is simple: Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess him as Lord. Salvation is not earned by religious achievement or personal goodness. It is received through faith in Christ. The mouth confesses what the heart trusts. And this grace is wide. Paul says there is no distinction between Jew and Greek. The same Lord is Lord of all. Everyone who calls on him will be saved. That means the gospel is not only for people like us, people near us, or people we think are ready. Christ is rich in mercy toward all who call upon him. Grace is near, and grace is for all. But Paul also reminds us that people need to hear. The feet are called beautiful not because the road is easy, but because the message is life. You may feel ordinary, but ordinary witnesses carry extraordinary news. So do not keep the gospel silent. Believe it deeply. Confess Christ openly. Pray for those who have not heard. Take the next faithful step. The word is near, the Savior is generous, and the good news is too precious to keep to ourselves.

Prayer

“Father, thank you for bringing salvation near through Jesus. Help me believe deeply, confess Christ faithfully, and call on you with trust. Give me a wider heart for those who still need to hear the gospel. Make me willing to carry the good news with humility, courage, and love.”
