Luke 16:10-13

¹⁰“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.¹¹If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?¹²And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?¹³No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

Reflect

1.What "very little" task, relationship, or responsibility have you been tempted to overlook or cut corners on, and how might faithfulness there prepare you for greater trust?
2.Where are you treating money or possessions as yours to control rather than as something entrusted to you by God?
3.What area of your life are you handling carelessly because you see it as temporary or borrowed rather than a gift to steward with gratitude?
4.What competing master (whether money, approval, comfort, or success) is pulling your heart away from single-minded devotion to Christ?

Exposition

It is easy to think that faithfulness only matters in big moments. We imagine obedience as something dramatic, public, or life-changing. But Jesus teaches that the small things matter because they reveal the heart. How we handle ordinary responsibilities, private choices, money, time, and trust says more about us than we may realize. Jesus says that the one who is faithful in very little is also faithful in much. This means the little things are not little to God. A quiet act of honesty, a careful use of money, a responsible decision at work, or a faithful response when no one is watching can become worship. This passage also warns us that money is never spiritually neutral. Wealth can become a servant, or it can become a master. If we are not careful, money can begin to shape our choices, control our fears, and define our security. Jesus is clear: we cannot serve God and money. A divided heart cannot walk in faithful devotion. But this warning is also grace. Jesus calls us away from false masters because only God is worthy of our trust. Money may promise safety, but it cannot save. God entrusts us with resources not so we would be owned by them, but so we would use them faithfully for his purposes. What is in your hands today? Be faithful in the small things. Use what God has entrusted to you with honesty, generosity, and worship. The way you steward little things can reveal a heart surrendered to the Lord.

Prayer

“Father, thank you for everything you have entrusted to me. Help me be faithful in small responsibilities, hidden choices, and the way I use money. Guard my heart from serving wealth, comfort, or security more than you. Teach me to steward my life with honesty, generosity, and wholehearted devotion to you.”
