Psalms 111:1-10
1Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.2Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them.3Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.4He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful.5He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.6He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations.7The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy;8they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.9He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name!10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!
Reflect
- 1.In verse 1, the psalmist commits to giving thanks with his whole heart in the company of others; how can you intentionally express your gratitude to him alongside the church community this week?
- 2.When you read verse 4 and realize he has caused his wondrous works to be remembered so we know he is gracious, what specific past victory do you need to recall today to fight your current anxiety?
- 3.In verse 10, the fear of the Lord is called the beginning of wisdom. What decision or attitude needs to be shaped by reverence for God rather than by convenience, pressure, or fear?
Exposition
How often are we oblivious to the goodness of God? We notice our problems quickly, but we forget his works easily. The answered prayer becomes yesterday’s news, the provision becomes ordinary, and the mercy that carried us becomes something we rarely pause to remember.
calls us to slow down and give thanks with our whole heart. The works of the Lord are great, full of splendor, and worthy of careful attention. God’s faithfulness is not something to glance at; it is something to study, remember, and praise. A forgetful heart becomes anxious quickly, but a remembering heart learns to worship.
The psalm reminds us that God provides, keeps his covenant, acts with justice, and gives his people redemption. His works reveal his character. He is gracious and merciful. He is faithful and upright. He does not make promises carelessly or forget what he has spoken. What God does shows us who God is.
If God has been faithful before, you can trust him now. If his works are true and just, you can walk in his ways. If his covenant stands forever, your life is not resting on fragile circumstances. The Lord’s faithfulness is stronger than your fears.
So let reverence guide you today. The fear of the Lord is not panic before a harsh God, but humble awe before the Holy One who is faithful, merciful, and wise. Remember his works. Trust his word. Walk in his wisdom. Praise is not only a response to blessing; it is the posture of a heart that has learned who God is.

“Father, thank you for your great works and faithful care. Forgive me for rushing past your mercy and forgetting what you have done. Teach me to remember your goodness with a whole heart and walk in reverent wisdom. Let my life be filled with praise that honors you.”
