THE GOD WHO STOOPS DOWN

Psalms 113:1-9
1Praise the LORD! Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD!2Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and forevermore!3From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised!4The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens!5Who is like the LORD our God, who is seated on high,6who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?7He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap,8to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.9He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the LORD!

- 1.What would it look like for your daily rhythm to be marked by praise, not just in church but in every ordinary moment?
- 2.God stoops down to lift the poor and needy. Where do you need to remember that the high and holy God still sees you personally?
- 3.In verse 9, God changes the situation of the barren woman and gives her joy. What area of emptiness or disappointment do you need to entrust to his compassionate care?
Exposition
Sometimes God can feel too great to be near. We think of him as exalted above the nations, higher than the heavens, ruling over everything, and we quietly wonder whether a God that great really notices the small details of our lives.
gives us a beautiful answer. Yes, God is high above all. No one compares with him. His glory is above the heavens. But what makes his greatness especially wonderful is that he stoops down to look upon heaven and earth. The God who is infinitely high bends low enough to see the needy.
That is grace. God does not use his greatness to distance himself from weakness. He uses his power to lift the poor from the dust and raise the needy from the ash heap. The One who deserves all praise is also the One who draws near to people the world overlooks.
Your need does not disappear beneath the size of the universe. Your sorrow is not too ordinary for God’s attention. He is high enough to rule everything and near enough to care for you personally. Greatness and tenderness meet perfectly in him.
So praise him today because his majesty bends toward mercy. Let the sunrise remind you that he reigns. Let the evening remind you that he has carried you. The God above all things is not beyond reach. He stoops down, sees the needy, and lifts with compassion.
Prayer
“Father, you are exalted above all, yet you draw near to the weak and needy. Thank you for seeing me when I feel small or forgotten. Lift my heart from discouragement and help me trust your compassionate care. Teach me to praise you throughout the day for both your greatness and your mercy.”
