CREATION TREMBLES BEFORE GOD
The Passage
1When Israel went out from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
2Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.
3The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back.
4The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs.
5What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?
6O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?
7Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water.
Reflect & Apply
- When you look back on your own life, where do you see God's deliverance and his presence making you his dwelling place?
- How does the imagery of creation responding to God's presence challenge your view of his power and majesty?
- What "mountains" in your life (obstacles, fears, or impossibilities) need to tremble before the presence of the Lord, and how does this psalm encourage you to trust him to move them?
- Where in your life do you feel like you are striking rock with no water in sight, and how does this promise of God's provision speak to your dryness?
Today’s Word
Sometimes our problems look so large that we forget how great our God is. We see obstacles that refuse to move, circumstances beyond our control, and needs we cannot meet. Before long, our difficulties begin to occupy more space in our thoughts than the Lord himself.
invites us to look back at Israel's deliverance from Egypt. When God brought his people out, the sea fled, the Jordan turned back, and the mountains trembled. Creation itself responded to the presence of its Maker. What seemed impossible for Israel was no obstacle to God.
The psalm reminds us that the Lord is not merely watching his people from a distance. He is the powerful God who comes near, delivers, and provides. The sea cannot resist his command. Even a hard rock becomes a source of water when he acts. What overwhelms us never overwhelms God.
This gives us hope when life feels impossible. We may not know how God will lead us through our difficulties, and he may not remove every obstacle in the way we expect. But his power has not diminished, and his presence remains our greatest security.
So remember who walks with you. Let his greatness put your fears into perspective. The God who rules creation is faithful to his people.
Today, bring your seemingly immovable obstacles before him. Trust his wisdom, remember his faithfulness, and worship with renewed awe.
Prayer
Father, thank you that nothing in creation is beyond your power. Forgive me for allowing my problems to become greater in my thoughts than you. Help me trust your presence and provision when the road seems impossible. Fill my heart with reverence, courage, and confidence in your faithful care.
