TRUSTING THE GOD WHO HELPS
The Passage
9O Israel, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
10O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
11You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
12The LORD has remembered us; he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron;
13he will bless those who fear the LORD, both the small and the great.
14May the LORD give you increase, you and your children!
15May you be blessed by the LORD, who made heaven and earth!
16The heavens are the LORD's heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of man.
17The dead do not praise the LORD, nor do any who go down into silence.
18But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forevermore. Praise the LORD!
Reflect & Apply
- Where do you need to stop leaning on your own defenses and trust God more fully?
- In verses 12-13, the psalmist says the Lord remembers and blesses his people. How does this comfort you when you feel overlooked, forgotten, or small?
- What area of your family or future do you need to entrust to God’s care?
- The living are called to bless the Lord. How can you use the life and breath God has given you to praise him today?
Today’s Word
When life feels uncertain, we naturally look for something solid to lean on. We trust our plans, savings, abilities, connections, or experience. These things can be useful, but they were never meant to carry the full weight of our confidence.
gives a repeated invitation: trust in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. Unlike the lifeless idols described earlier in the psalm, God sees, hears, remembers, acts, and blesses. He is not distant or forgetful. The God who asks for your trust is the God who remembers you.
That’s important to remember when you feel unnoticed. Verse 12 says, “The Lord has remembered us.” Your circumstances may make you feel small, but you are never forgotten. Your prayers may seem delayed, but they are not unheard. God’s care is not limited to the impressive or powerful. He blesses those who fear him, both small and great.
The psalmist looks beyond one moment and speaks blessing over generations. God is faithful not only in the crisis in front of you, but also in the story he is still writing. You can trust what you cannot control to the God who never forgets.
So use the breath you have today to bless the Lord. Trust him in the fear. Praise him in the waiting. Receive his care with gratitude. The living God is your help, your shield, and your reason for hope.
Prayer
Father, thank you that you remember me and do not overlook my needs. Help me trust you more than my own strength, plans, or resources. Be my help and shield in the places where I feel afraid or uncertain. Teach me to use my life and breath to praise you with confidence and gratitude.
