FAITHFUL WITNESS
The Passage
12Now many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Portico.
13None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high esteem.
14And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,
15so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.
16The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
Reflect & Apply
- Many signs and wonders were done through the apostles. Where have you seen God work in ways that strengthened your faith or encouraged others?
- The people held the believers in high esteem even though not everyone was ready to join them. What does your life communicate to people who are watching Christianity from a distance?
- More and more believers were added to the Lord. Who in your life are you praying would come to faith in Christ?
- People brought the sick and troubled hoping for healing. What burden do you need to bring to Jesus instead of carrying alone?
Today’s Word
There are times when the work of God becomes so evident that people cannot easily ignore it. describes a church marked by power, unity, reverence, and compassion. People were being healed, troubled lives were being restored, and more believers were coming to Christ.
But the passage also shows something more than the miracles. The believers had credibility. Even those who were hesitant to join them held them in high regard. Something about this community made people stop and take notice. The church was not perfect, but the presence of God among them was difficult to dismiss.
That gives us an important reminder. Our witness is not only what we say about Jesus; it is also what people see in the way we live together. Grace should become visible in our integrity, unity, compassion, courage, and care for those who are hurting. A church shaped by Jesus becomes a kind of living testimony.
And the hope of the passage is that Jesus was still at work through ordinary people. The apostles were not the source of the power. They were instruments. The sick came because they believed something greater than human ability was present among God’s people.
So do not underestimate what God can do through faithful witness. Pray for people. Serve the hurting. Walk with integrity. Keep pointing to Christ. When God’s grace becomes visible, people begin to ask where the life is coming from. And the answer is always the same: Jesus is still at work.
Prayer
Father, thank you that Jesus is still at work among his people. Help me live in a way that makes your grace visible through integrity, compassion, and love. Use my life to encourage the hurting and point others to Christ. May your presence in your church become a clear witness to those who are watching.
