UNSTOPPABLE GOSPEL

Acts 4:1-4
1And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,2greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.3And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening.4But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.
Reflect
- 1.The religious leaders were greatly annoyed by the bold teaching about Jesus; what specific fear of other people's opinions is currently keeping you from speaking up about your faith?
- 2.The apostles were arrested and put in custody for doing the right thing; how do you handle it when doing the right thing at work or in your family results in unfair pushback or misunderstanding?
- 3.In verse 4, the number of believers grew to about five thousand. What does this teach you about God’s power to advance the gospel despite opposition?
Exposition
Sometimes following Jesus feels harder when people push back. You try to do what is right. You speak with sincerity. You want to honor God. But instead of understanding, you receive criticism, suspicion, awkward silence, even rejection. That can make you wonder if it is better to stay quiet.
Peter and John had just been part of a miracle, and Peter had preached about Jesus. But the religious leaders were annoyed. They did not want to hear about the resurrection or welcome the message. So Peter and John were arrested and held in custody until the next day.
That must have felt heavy. Yet tells us something wonderful: many who heard the word believed. Peter and John were locked up, but God’s word kept working. Their circumstances looked discouraging, but the gospel was bearing fruit.
What do you do when faithfulness feels costly or unseen? You may not always know what God is doing through a conversation, a prayer, a testimony, or a quiet stand for Christ. You may even feel opposed. But God can use faithful obedience in ways you cannot measure.
So do not let fear decide your witness. You do not need to be loud, impressive, or forceful. Just be faithful. Speak when God opens the door. Stand when obedience is costly. Trust that the risen Jesus is still at work. Even when you feel restricted, the word of God is not.
Prayer
“Father, you know where I feel afraid to speak or stand for Jesus. Give me courage when obedience feels costly and help me not be ruled by people’s reactions. Thank you that your word can work even when I cannot see the results. Make me faithful, humble, and bold in the opportunities you give me today.”
