THE ONLY FOUNDATION

Acts 4:5-12
5On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem,6with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family.7And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?”8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders,9if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed,10let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead — by him this man is standing before you well.11This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.12And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

- 1.Peter and John are questioned by powerful leaders about the source of their authority. Where do you feel intimidated to speak or live openly for Jesus?
- 2.Peter is filled with the Holy Spirit before he speaks. How does this remind you to depend on God’s power rather than your own confidence?
- 3.Peter points to Jesus was the rejected cornerstone that became the chief cornerstone. How does knowing God uses what the world rejects change the way you view your own feelings of inadequacy or rejection?
Exposition
Life often feels like we are desperately trying to build a stable house on shifting sand. We look for security in our careers, our relationships, or our bank accounts, hoping these things will give us a solid foundation when the storms of life hit. When those foundations crack under pressure, we feel completely unmoored, leaving us exhausted and spiritually anxious.
But when Peter stood before the most powerful, intimidating religious leaders of his day, he didn't point to his own wisdom or strength. Filled with the Spirit, he pointed directly to the One the world had rejected and crucified. Peter boldly declared that Jesus is the very stone the builders rejected, which has now become the cornerstone. God specializes in taking what the world throws away and making it the most crucial piece of the entire structure.
And Peter makes it incredibly clear that there is absolutely no other name under heaven by which we can be saved. We do not have to juggle a dozen different philosophies or endlessly hustle to earn our own rescue. Our salvation and our daily security are found entirely in one person. When you build your daily life on his perfect grace, you are standing on solid rock.
So stop trying to reinforce your life with temporary, worldly securities. When the heavy pressure mounts and you feel like everything is falling apart, anchor your anxious mind to the beautiful name of Jesus. Trust his finished work, rely on his daily strength, and let his grace be the only foundation you ever need. Walk forward today with deep confidence, knowing your life is securely held by the cornerstone.
Prayer
“Heavenly Father, thank you for making Jesus the solid cornerstone of our lives when everything else feels like shifting sand. Please forgive us for the times we try to build our security on temporary, worldly things instead of resting in your perfect grace. Give us the boldness to trust entirely in his name today, knowing he is the only true source of our salvation and daily strength. We love you and joyfully anchor our hearts to you.”
